Adult Novice hockey league skating at Bellerive Ice in Houston Texas. Contact us if you have any questions.
We started at the Space City rink in Clear Lake and it was a bunch of folks who saw their kids having fun skating so they started an adult league. Lots of them were from NASA. The thing is that there were mixed skill levels of players but not enough to make divisions by skill level. So they came up with a mixed level draft league. Sundays were best for everyone so that factored in as well. We play Sunday nights at 6 pm, 7:25 pm, 8:50 pm and 10:15 pm. The league has mostly C level skaters but we have a number of B level and some low C level players. Players are rated and drafted by team captains. At the end of the draft teams are compared and then players swapped if teams seem unbalanced. We will trade players up to the 4th week if it looks like teams are not balanced. The advantage to our system is that everyone gets a fresh chance to be on a winning team after each season and we get to play with different players in the league. We limit teams to 13 skaters and a goalie and we play three 15 minute stop time periods so there is plenty of ice time for everyone. We follow USA Hockey rules. You have to be a USA Hockey member to join (this covers the rink insurance wise). Also it is a 14 week season and everyone plays all 14 games. If a team is eliminated they still play consolation games.
